Presented regardless of their size, of their usefulness, their decor or their materials - Bakelite, raffia, pearl, paper-mache, straw, ivory, pearl, resin, leather, jet, string..., the buttons are works of art made by the embroiderers, the goldsmiths,
the paruriers, the lace-makers and the sculptors.
Since its emergence in the eighteenth century, the button has gradually gained importance first in the masculine outfits, then in the feminine.
More than an ornament, it is really a code indicating with ostentatious or discretion, the social position, elegance, inclinations and opinions.
The buttons display their political ideas, narrate the happy scenes of history and royalty or play the card of eroticism and mystery with intriguing rebuses.
In the male wardrobe, the value of the buttons often exceeds that of the coat. Like trophies, they become, by their wealth and their numbers, the elements of the power and decorations that impress.
