From October 20, 2015, a total exhibition of the collection will occupy the entire museum in a huge visual collage in the line of the artist who said, «a painter’s studio has to be a laboratory.»
Inaugurated in 1985 by the President of the Republic, François Mitterrand, the Museum found in the Hotel Salé a prestigious and original setting that perfectly matches Picasso.
Built in the seventeenth century by Jean Boullier for Pierre Aubert Lord of Fontenay, farmer-general of the salt tax, this place took the nickname «Hôtel Salé» which remained attached to it.
The architect Jean-François Bodin oversaw its renovation and
its extension between 2009 and 2014, preserving its historical heritage.
