Scenes of the Impressionist life -
The Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen from 16 April to 26 September 2016
This exhibition centers its attention on a more intimate facet of the Impressionist movement, the portrait, which allowed beyond the well-known landscapes to affirm the personality of eMach artist.
onet also began his artistic career by drawing caricatures and depictions of his family who offered him the opportunity to earn money to finance his departure for Paris to study painting. These hundreds of works open windows on everyday life in the Haussmann-style interiors or in the heart of nature. The scenes of social life are portrayed in their privacy of stolen instants and show the awakening of a sweet female emancipation.
The ordinary banality of certain activities becomes, under the delicate touches, savor of the moment rocked in its light. Extreme attention is paid to each element, to each pose to reflect the codes of a society with a respectful restraint.
Frits Thaulow - Landscaper by nature
Museum of Fine Arts in Caen from 16 April to 26 September 2016
This stunning Norwegian landscape painter (1847-1906), world citizen and brother in law of Gauguin, has known a huge success.
The first part of the exhibition focuses on his constant trips to Europe and the United States in total harmony with the ever-living nature in his true ecological sensitivity. Fascinated by the magic of water from dawn to night, from the sea to the river, from the waterfall to the sleeping swamp, he has painted rare snow scenes with this generous and serene warmth that only winter can transmit.
His interest in the nocturnal mysteries and hidden powers leads him to paint the night under the white fires of his flashlight and little by little, he has switched from Impressionism to the Symbolism.
