The entrance of Baudelaire in the world of letters was made with his books of art criticism.
He is the only one among his contemporaries to imbricate as closely his own view of the art of his time to his poetic ambition.
By the side of Baudelaire, this exhibition allows you to browse the artistic landscape of this pivotal period of art in France. The poet covers a sequence of 1845-1863, which saw the last fires of Romanticism, the climax of Cour- bet’s realism, the emergence of a rising generation and the beginnings of Édouard Manet while Delacroix and Ingres became lighthouses one at each end of the axis in the creation of the nineteenth century.
As for the caricaturist Daumier, promoted to a great painter, he is the most complete expression of the present while the qualities of «naivety», «since- rity» and «imagination» characterize the artistic sensuality Baudelaire deve- lops in the museum of love.
