His feminine or masculine figures always have generous forms whatever the subjects, festive, social or political. Nothing in their expressions can detect the moods of his characters. With a detached impartiality and a pre-romantic imperturbability, their perfectly smooth and excessive curves leave nothing to show their joy or their pain.
His matadors, his saints or his female nudes simply live their daily life, without moral or psychological dimen- sion.
