The women, who normally work on the farms, gather in the shade of the trees to discuss and learn together how to make these beautiful baskets.
They make them from natural fibers such as sisal, a tough plant that is easy to dye, softer than rattan and can be mixed with recycled plastic.
This tradition of basket weaving began in the early 1930s in the Makueni region of Kenya. Women used it to store food and spices or to transport fruits and vegetables.
