The Frick Collection, opened to the public in 1935 in the New York «mansion» of industrial magnate and great collector Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919), is under construction, which today makes it possible to contemplate Whistler’s works in Paris.
Along with the United States and the United Kingdom, France is one of the three homelands of the painter.Recognized worldwide during his lifetime and taken as a model by the painter Elstir in Proust’s work «In Search of Lost Time», Whistler is considered the precursor of English Impressionism, considering painting as a pure aesthetic experience.
In 2022, France celebrates the centenary of the death of Marcel Proust and the arrival of the works of Whistler with the portrait of Montesquiou, which inspired Baron Charlus, gives a taste of madeleine to a time regained.
