Faced with the interest aroused by the first retrospective at the Musée de la Gare d’Orsay in 2012, the Jacquemart André Museum presents a splendid exhibition in tribute to the Finnish painter and engraver Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865 -1931).
A wonderful opportunity to discover one of the most famous personalities of Finland from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century who wanted to highlight his culture erased by Swedish and Russian domination.
Born in Pori, on the western coast of the Archduchy of Finland, trained in Helsinki then at the Académie Julian in Paris and at the Atelier Cormon, Akseli Gallen-Kallela will decorate the Pavilion of Finland with his frescoes at the Exhibition Universal of Paris in 1900.
