Classically made, these portraits prove to be particularly faithful to their young model and express the happiness that the little girl brings to the exis- tence of the painter. Beyond these works, it is also the practice of drawing that unites the father and his daughter. For Maya indeed, but also with her, the artist draws: “Dad draw me... And Dad drew me what I asked of him with incredible patience”. This complicity will remain forever even after his separation from Marie-Thérèse, Maya will always be present in the heart and in the life of her father.
In the aftermath of the war, while Picasso settled in the south of France with Françoise Gilot and founded a new family, Maya continued to share moments of great complicity with her father by participating as an assistant in the filming of the film by Henri Georges-Clouzot, “The Picasso Mystery”.
Bringing together an exceptional set of nearly 200 works, archives and personal objects, this exhibition highlights the love that unites them.
