During the sale at Sotheby’s of the paper version of his work «Girl with Balloon - There’s always hope», the little girl with a balloon, painted for the first time in 2002 on a wall in London, Banksy had hidden a paper shredder in the frame and the work, after having been sold for 1,042,000 pounds sterling, practically self-destructed.
Banksy’s most expensive painting to date is that of «Devolved Parliament» representing the British parliament populated by monkeys, it was sold for 9.9 million pounds sterling.
A protester challenged only by the systems he vilifies through his works, Banksy is one of the most famous anonymous people in the art world and his images strongly mark his time.
Banksy has made a big deal out of stencil and his message speaks in silence with power.
