Newton began photographing nudes in the 1980s. He chose oversized models with sharp outlines. Fascinated by Brassaï, the master of the night, Helmut Newton with humor and fantasy immortalized his subjects in an almost bellicose nudity. Through his images of confident sexuality brimming with energy, he probed social and moral boundaries.
This terrible child of photography has always remained the little boy of Berlin and his camera served him as a shield, a protection to keep his images and his imaginary creatures at a distance.
Helmut Newton bequeaths to history a work of disturbing beauty,
a bet assumed and won.
