Her meeting with the famous artist Diego Riviera, 21 years her senior, will forever cement her destiny as a woman and an artist.
Their fusional and passionate union leads them to marry, to separate after ten years of marriage, only to remarry the following year.
Mexican and proud of her culture, a strong and determined woman, she ma- nages to transpose into art everything that she touches and that touches her. She will transform the European style of the «Casa Azul» in vogue at her birth with Mexican folk art. Rebellious against American hegemony, she nicknamed the United States «Gringolandia». However, she followed her husband to San Francisco where he presented his murals and triumphantly exhibited in New York in 1938. Following André Breton’s invitation, she presented eighteen works in Paris and befriended many artists of the time.
Extremely feminine, she knows how to transform her handicaps into assets thanks to her immense creativity. She makes her body a work of art and seduces both men and women.
Her influence remains decisive on contemporary fashion as a source of inspira- tion for couturiers from Gaultier to McQueen, from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel to Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior and from Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy to Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons.
