On November 13, 1872, Claude Monet painted from the window of his hotel in Le Havre, a view of the port through the mist which he baptized «Impression, rising sun» and the critic Louis Leroy created the term «Impressionists» for Monet and his friends.
In 2022, the Musée Marmottan Monet celebrates the 150th anniversary of the flagship of its collections and pays homage to it through the exhi- bition «Face au Soleil, a star in the arts» from September 14, 2022 to January 29, 2023.
A rare set of drawings , paintings, photographs and measuring instru- ments from the Paris Observatory illustrates the development of astro- nomy over the centuries and resonates with the evolution of landscape and atmospheric painting thanks to a hundred works from antiquity to the present day.
