Just like the Louvre, this former royal palace transformed into a museum, hosts within its walls Italian paintings from the 15th to the 17th century. It was in 1957 that the Capodimonte was restored and became a National Museum.
Before the reunification of Italy, three dynasties contributed to the wealth of the Museum of Naples, the Farnese, the Bourbon and the Bonaparte-Murat.The salt cellar of François Ier made by the great goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini and “The Fall of the Giants” in biscuit cascade imagined by Filippo Taglionini are among these admirable works.
