Passionate about music and dance, he designed costumes and sets for the «Song of the Nightingale» at the request of Stravinsky and Diaghilev in 1919. He did the same for «The Red and the Black» with the Russian Ballets of Monte Carlo.
Henri Matisse has always loved using unconventional tools to produce works of apparent simplicity. He has traced the contours of his dancers with charcoal at the tip of a bamboo for his monumental work, «The Dance.» By doing this work of Titan he invented the «paper cutouts» in 1930 with the childish techniques of scissors and glue, using his genius.
