At the end of his life, immobilized by cancer since 1941, he used the fabrics brought back from his travels to dress his models from around the world and begin his series «Jazz».
Like enchanted butterflies, each fragment cut out by Matisse flies away to the rhythm of this «Jazz» of which he made an album and wrote a text with his hand in the original edition published by Tériade in 1947.
The joy and peace radiate in this chapter that closes the exceptional career of this draftsman, printmaker, sculptor and painter whose art depicts an eternal freshness.
