Sonia Delaunay, born Stern in Ukraine on the 14th of November, 1885, made short art studies in Germany and then in Paris at the Académie de la Palette in Montparnasse, as she dreamed of the French capital through the paintings of Renoir.
Parisian in her soul and her heart, her «white» wedding with the gallery owner, collector and German art critic Wilhelm Uhde will give her the French nationality in 1908.
Her first artistic period «Fauve» draws inspiration from Van Gogh and Gauguin.
But this is with her second and true husband, the painter Robert Delaunay, that she shares a total complicity in her life and in her artwork. With him, she is researching the colors, their simultaneous contrasts and their movement.
Together, they create the «Orphic» wave, named so by Apollinaire referring to his poem «Orpheus», ode to poetry as «luminous language» related to music.
