Cloître gothique du Monastère de Santa Creus © Felipe J. Alcoceha-ACT
The monastery of Santes Creus (1150), one of the best-preserved ensembles, faithfully reproduces the construction plan by Saint Bernard. It is the only monastery of the Ruta del Cister that houses no communities and that can only be visited in its more or less hidden corners.
The monastic rooms have been restored and form a fascinating small village of the same name.
The largest feminine Cistercian monastery of Catalonia Vallbona, (1153) houses without interruption for over 800 years its community of nuns. Smaller than the others, it is no less sumptuous. Thirty nuns reside there in an ascetic and pious atmosphere.
