Marilyn liked much more to work with star photographers than to make movies. With the photographers she was the director of the film she decided to play. She was writing her own script and she was able to connect perfectly with her image. Nobody was there to tell her what to do or not to do.
That was the incredible creative force of Marilyn.
She said so: “We need just a bed and white silk sheets, I will wear nothing but it must be silk for the sheets.” She added that they needed Dom Perignon Champagne with Frank Sinatra records. It was a Tuesday in November and the photo session took place on Friday. At that moment she was more like “the girl next door”, but already the story maker.
Douglas didn’t sleep after meeting her, he was afraid of the challenge to make the sexiest picture of the worldwide sex symbol as an ambitious young photographer. At the time of the session everything was perfect. Marilyn was supposed to arrive at 7.00 pm. They were sitting in the room, waiting for her and wondering anxiously what will happen if she didn’t.There was a tremendously pressure in the studio as they absolutely needed her. Two hours later, Marilyn arrived, completely different from the time Douglas had seen her in her flat.
