A Fifteen Year Project
The ship, more than 200 ft long, has been rebuilt with the utmost respect for the past and the present. In recent history, the plans for the three identical frigates that included Hermione were archived by the British and were shared with the Association in order to rebuild the Hermione in Louis XVI’s original ship arsenal in Rochefort. This open-air interactive Hermione museum, where artisans revive original craftsmanship and materials, has attracted over 3,5 millions of visitors to the reconstruction project.
With Hermione almost complete, the Association Hermione-La Fayette and the associated Friends of Hermione-La Fayette in America are hosting celebrations in both Rochefort and New York City, commencing with the Launch of the Hermione from dry dock on July 6th.
